COVID - 19 Virus Update

Condicote re-opens

Preparing to commemorate VJ day

Rector‘s Reflections take a break

Saturday August 8th

Dear Friends,

This weekend marks the final phase of our initial re-opening as services resume in Condicote.

There will be Morning Prayer in traditional language at Condicote at 9.30am to which all are welcome. Because we are not allowed to sing, we will say the hymns.

Following this our 11.00am on-line Sunday Prayer service will continue on the Zoom platform. So will the local delivery of these services to those who cannot get on-line.

St Edwards will now be open at 12.00noon every Sunday for a short (half- hour) service of Holy Communion in contemporary language. This service can stand alone or enhance the earlier Sunday Prayer.

More details of our new arrangements are in the Covid-19 Benefice Diary which you can see and print off following the link below this letter.

Our intention to move forward very carefully in small, manageable and secure steps seems to be on track. Everyone, so far, seems to think the arrangements we’ve made have enabled then to feel safe returning to worship. It has been particularly encouraging that people who were shielding until recently have felt confident enough to join us.

The standard Covid-19 safety guidance greets you on the threshold and, odd though it feels, we are all supporting each other’s safety by wearing face coverings in church.

The latest government advice about all this and all Covid-19 related matters is available on the Church of England’s website. A link to the ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ (FAQs) is included below this letter.

Each of our PCC’s Risk Assessments are now posted on line. A copy will also be posted in each church porch or noticeboard.

In all of our churches, space will be limited. Whilst we expect to have room for everyone who wishes to come, we cannot guarantee this. If capacity is reached, we may have to invite you to return on another occasion.

It is possible that some services, including a special Sung Eucharist on September 27th, may have to be ticketed. We will also be challenged at Christmas! This Update will keep you abreast of arrangements.

Saturday, August 15th marks the 75th Anniversary of VJ Day. We shall be joining a national commemoration of this at 11.10am in St Edward’s Churchyard. As part of this we shall be ringing a bell 75 times, once for each year of peace since 1945. Everyone is welcome at this outdoor occasion and is asked to keep 2m social-distancing.

The weekly Rector’s Reflection on-line is now taking a break over the Summer. When the production team are back together later in September these will return.

This week’s Bible reading is the story of Peter walking on water. It is another of those passages that remind us that life has so many more possibilities and so much more to offer if we are living it closely with Jesus.

With my best wishes and prayers. Stay safe.
